Assistant Professor of History Celeste Day Moore traveled to Dakar, Senegal, to participate in Cinquantenaire du 1er Festival Mondial des Arts Nègres, the 50th anniversary conference celebrating the first Pan-African Festival of Black Arts, on Nov. 10.
Moore was a member of a panel focused on the impact of the festival on cultural expression. She presented a paper, “La Traduction de la musique afro-américaine en Afrique,” that revealed the work of cultural intermediaries in introducing African-American music to audiences in Francophone West Africa in the early-to-mid 1960s.
