The Hamilton College men’s track & field team opened its outdoor season at the 2014 University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on Sunday.

The Continentals placed 14th at the 25-team event with 25 team points. SUNY Brockport captured the team title with 139 points, nationally ranked No. 18 Buffalo State College was third with 59 and No. 12 SUNY Cortland tied for eighth place with 43.

Hamilton’s top performance came from Adam Pfander ’16, who set a school record in winning the 10,000-meter run. Pfander’s first-place time of 31:36.04 topped the program’s three-year-old record by 0.66 seconds. He also qualified for the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Championships, which will be held in May.

Leonard Kilekwang ’16 took third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.98 meters. Dylan Berardelli ’16 was eighth in the shot put with a distance of 12.90 meters. Matthew Peterfreund '14 finished third in the javelin throw with a distance of 46.55 meters.

Hamlton’s 400-meter relay of Jake London '14, Nate Somes '16, Max Newman '16 and Robert Miles '16 placed eighth in 45.62 seconds. 

The Continentals are back in action on Saturday, April 12, competing at Rensselaer’s Upstate Classic.
