Stanley Lombardo, an acclaimed translator of Greek literature, will present, "The Hero's Revenge, A Dramatic Reading of Odyssey 22," on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 4:10 p.m. in the Science Auditorium.
Lombardo, who is making his third visit to Hamilton, is professor of classics at the University of Kansas and one of today's preeminent translators of ancient Greek literature. His versions of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey have met with wide acclaim. His translation of the Iliad is the version used in Aquila Productions' frequent stagings of The Wrath of Achilles, including a performance that will take place at Hamilton on January 30. Lombardo has also published translations of Parmenides, Aratus, Callimachus, Plato, and Hesiod, the last of which won a National Translation Center Award. He has published many papers, reviews, poems, and short translations, and has lectured widely and given many readings.
