Assistant Professor of Biology Andrea Townsend presented an invited lecture at the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center in Washington, D.C., on March 23.
The lecture was titled “Crows and Zoonotic Disease: Vectors or Victims?” and described the zoonotic pathogens carried by wild urban crows, the effects of these pathogens on the crows, and their potential relevance for human health. Townsend emphasized the migration and cognition work she has done on campus with her students.
In the past several months, Townsend has also given invited seminars at Virginia Tech, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and the Connecticut Audubon Society.
