John Bartle

Associate Professor of German and Russian Languages and Literatures John Bartle made two presentations about the Digital Humanities Initiative’s (DHi) Refugee Project at Smith College on March 23.

Bartle, a project director, presented “The Refugee Project: A Digital Humanities Initiative” as part of the college’s Lewis Global Studies Center Global Salon series.

That evening, he presented “25 Years of Welcoming Refugees: Notes on the College Community Collaboration.” His discussion focused on Utica’s experience resettling refugees and how the presence of refugees in the community has helped revitalize the city.

The DHi’s Refugee Project is an ongoing documentary project about the daily lives of refugees in Upstate New York. Through interviews, Hamilton students and faculty work together to document the practices, rituals and cultural events of area refugee communities.
