Courtney Gibbons

An article by Assistant Professor of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons appears in the January/February issue of the Association of Women in Mathematics (AWM) newsletter. “New NSF Funding Requirements” focuses on the National Science Foundation’s recently announced funding requirements related to sexual assault and harassment.

Calling the announcement “a significant step forward for institutional change,” Gibbons provided an overview of the policy that clarifies NSF expectations for awardee institutions.

Among the changes is the requirement that awardee institutions report any person linked to a grant who has committed harassment, including sexual harassment, or sexual assault. The NSF can now revoke funding or require changes to grant personnel in order to protect all involved with the grant.

Gibbons is a member of the AWM Policy and Advocacy Committee that reviews congressional bills, writes policy statements, and advocates for inclusion in mathematics.
