Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies Edna Rodríguez-Plate was invited to participate in the symposium, Culture and Politics in Post-Soviet Cuba, at the University of Birmingham, England, on Nov. 24. She delivered the paper "Shrinking the Space of the Nation: Cuban Cinema from 35 mm to You Tube."
Rodriguez-Plate discussed how the changing cinematic mediums, from film to video to digital, have corresponded to political and economic changes on the island. These changes have implications for the Cuban sense of identity, both on national and personal levels.
