The Hamilton College rowing teams hosted their first races of the year on Saturday, facing Rochester Institute of Technology on Rome’s Erie Canal.
The men’s team entered two boats, including the varsity 8, which won a three-boat race. Conditions were extraordinarily windy with chop increasing from moderate to heavy.
The varsity 8 posted a first-place time of 7:13.21 on the 2,000-meter course, finishing ahead of a pair of boats from RIT. The Tigers had varsity 8 (7:16.84) and second varsity 8 (7:39.64) entries in the race. RIT’s novice 8 topped Hamilton’s second varsity 8/novice 8, which finished in 8:26.78.
