Williams College broke open a close game with three runs in the top of the sixth inning, and the Ephs went on to an 8-1 win over Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference West Division game at Hamilton’s Ferguson Fields on April 23.
 
Amy Appel ’13 pitched all seven innings for the Continentals (4-19 overall, 0-9 NESCAC West). Appel allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits, fanned three and walked two.
 
Lisa Faraci '13 recorded her fourth double of the season and scored Hamilton’s run. Leigh Sherrow '11 hit one double and one single. Rachel Rapoza '10 recorded two singles and one RBI. Liz Reid '11 hit two singles. Appel and Mandy Hyne '11 finished with one hit apiece.
 
Williams (12-18-1, 5-2) opened the first inning with a run-scoring triple. The Continentals answered in the bottom of the first. Faraci led off with a double, and a sacrifice bunt by Hyne put her on third. Rapoza singled to plate the tying run.
 
The Ephs scored one run in the third to go up 2-1. The Continentals tried to rally in the bottom of the third. Hyne led off with a single, and Rapoza reached first on a fielding error by the Ephs pitcher during a sacrifice bunt attempt. Reid singled to load the bases. Williams put in a new pitcher and Hamilton made three straight outs to leave the bases loaded.
 
The Ephs took over in the sixth inning with back-to-back singles followed by a double that drove in both runners for a 5-1 lead. Williams secured the win with three more runs in the seventh.
 
The Continentals host Williams for a NESCAC West Division doubleheader on Saturday, April 24.
