Williams College jumped out to a big early lead and held on late for a 6-5 win against Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference West Division game at Williams' chilly and wet Cole Field on April 23.

Ashley Perritt '14 and Leigh Sherrow '11 led the Hamilton offense with two hits apiece. Chelsea Merritt '14 doubled and drove in a run, and Cara Vennari '12 and Melissa Kaknis '13 chipped in one hit and one RBI apiece. Jen Rougeux '14 and Lisa Faraci '13 added singles, and both Sam Miller '14 and Liz Reid '11 drove in a run.

Merritt pitched all six innings. She allowed five earned runs on seven hits and walked three.

Williams (14-11-1 overall, 5-4 NESCAC West) swept the three-game weekend series. The Ephs jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings with four runs in the bottom of the second and two in the third.

The Continentals (5-20, 0-9) jumped back into things with three runs on five hits in the sixth inning, and added one last run in the seventh. Rougeux singled through the left side to lead off Hamilton's final at-bat. She went to second on a ground ball to the pitcher, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

After a walk, Rougeux scored on Miller's ground ball to shortstop that forced Faraci out at second. Kristen Pallen '12 came in to pinch run for the catcher Miller at first base, but the next batter struck out to end the game.

The Continentals travel to St. Lawrence University for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 27.
