Members of the Hamilton College men's and women's swimming and diving programs -- both past and present -- participated in an ocean-mile swim off the Massachusetts coast on July 14 to help raise money for cancer research.

Hamilton head coach T.J. Davis helped organize the College's team for the second straight year. Current student-athlete Stefanie Capizzi '09 raised more than $10,000 to help Team Hamilton lead the five New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) institutions that took part in the event with $15,480. Tufts University, Trinity College, Middlebury College and Amherst College were the other four schools.

Alums Brittany Achin '06, Liz Kennedy '06, Kristina Orsini-Platzer '06, Joe Sipos '03 and Brendan McCormick '01, and former Hamilton assistant coach Abby Brethauer also participated in the Swim Across America event at Nantasket Beach in Hull, Mass. Swim Across America is in its 21st year of raising money for cancer research.

The money benefits research institutes and hospitals such as Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. A total of 58 NESCAC student-athletes and coaches raised more than $54,000 this year. Capizzi's figure was the second-highest in the NESCAC group.
