The Hamilton College tennis teams hosted nationally ranked Middlebury College in a NESCAC doubleheader at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday.
The No. 9 Middlebury women’s team posted a 9-0 win and the No. 6 Panther men’s team won 7-2.
Hamilton’s points in the men’s match came from singles winners James Oliver '15 and Jon Cohen '17. The Continentals (7-7, 0-2 NESCAC) join Brandeis, No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 18 Redlands and No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps as the only teams to win more than one singles match against Middlebury (10-2, 1-0).
Oliver won his fourth straight match, claiming a straight-set victory at first flight singles to improve to 7-4 on the season. Cohen raised his season record to a team-leading 10-5 when his opponent at fourth flight singles retired in the first set.
Both Hamilton teams are back in action with weekend home matches starting with the women’s team hosting New York University at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 10. The men welcome NESCAC rival Bowdoin College on Saturday, April 11. The Polar Bears are ranked eighth in Division III.
