Three Continentals compete at cross country nationals
Three Hamilton College runners competed at the 2013 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Hanover College in Hanover, Ind., on Saturday.
On the women’s side, Adrian Walsh ’16 and Sarah Ohanesian ’14 placed 57th and 76th, respectively, in the 280-runner field. Walsh finished in 22:16.3 and Ohanesian posted a time of 22:27.0 on the 6,000-meter course.
Walsh and Ohanesian qualified for nationals by placing seventh and eighth, respectively, at last Saturday’s NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships. They were the program’s first NCAA qualifiers since 2007 and marked the first time two Hamilton women's teammates had qualified as individuals.
In the men’s race, Adam Pfander ’16 placed 66th among the 275 runners with a time of 25:41.8 over 8,000 meters. At last Saturday’s regional championships, Pfander finished 19th to earn a bid to nationals.
He was the first Hamilton men's qualifier since Peter Kosgei ’11, a three-time all-American who set the course record at Hanover’s L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex in 2008 (24:22.1).
