Hamilton College football player Michael de Percin '15 (Albany, N.Y./Albany HS) and softball player Kelly Leonard '15 (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster HS) received awards from the Kiwanis Club of Utica on May 6 at the organization's 27th Annual Recognition Luncheon honoring student-athletes of the year.
The Kiwanis Club of Utica honors student-athletes from five colleges around the Mohawk Valley including Hamilton, Utica College, SUNY Polytechnic, Herkimer College and Mohawk Valley Community College.
De Percin wrapped up his football career with the Continentals in the fall. He was a two-time member of the NESCAC all-conference first team on defense. The team captain led the conference with 16.5 tackles for loss in 2014 and as a result made the D3football.com East Region All-Star Team and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III North All-Star Team.
Leonard finishes her Hamilton softball career as the program's all-time leader in strikeouts. She is also second in wins and third in innings pitched. Leonard owns the team record for strikeouts in a season and tied the single-season mark for shutouts. This year she is ranked in the top 10 in the NESCAC in ERA, wins, complete games, shutouts and strikeouts. The two-time member of the NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team helped the Continentals tie the program record for wins in a season and led the pitching staff to its lowest team ERA since 2002.
