More than 1,560 students and their families will gather on the Hill on Oct. 30-Nov.2 for Hamilton's annual Family Weekend. The weekend will give families a good idea of all the Hill has to offer, from athletic contests and concerts, to an Adirondack Adventure slide show and educational family colleges.

Events kick off on Friday with a Summer Research poster session in the Science Center Atrium and Kirner-Johnson Commons. Last summer, more than 100 students conducted research; these students will present posters of their work on a wide range of topics. Families can also take an Arboretum Tour or a guided tour of Hamilton's Cemetery.

In the evening the Theater Department will preview its fall production of Roberto Zucco by Bernard-Marie Koltes. Other performances include the College Choir and College Hill Singers, and Hamilton College dance students will perform two newly choreographed pieces by Hamilton dance faculty

On Saturday, families can enjoy a continental breakfast with Dean of Students Nancy Thompson and her staff from the Adventure Program, Campus Safety, the Career Center, Chaplaincy, Counseling Center, Residential Life, Student Activities and Student Health. Following that, President Joan Hinde Stewart will deliver the annual State of the College address at 10 a.m. in Wellin Hall.

Over the course of the weekend sports fans can watch women's field hockey, football versus Middlebury, men's soccer hosting SUNY Geneseo or women's soccer taking on SUNY Oneonta.

In separate sessions for parents of seniors and parents of underclassmen, the Career Center will offer, respectively, a Senior Job Search Workshop and The Competitive Edge, an overview of the steps necessary for students to be competitive in their post-Hamilton pursuits. Families can join H.A.L.T. (Hamilton Alumni Leadership Training) for "It's Who We Are," a discussion on making the student experience cohesive, the importance of parent involvement and alumni engagement in Hamilton. Another Family College on Saturday features student readings of poetry and creative writing.

On the lighter side, Yodapez: Student Comedy Improv offers family-friendly improvisation by Hamilton's own comedic talent, or parents can see what their children experienced on this year's Adirondack Adventure trips as Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings presents slides from the popular first-year orientation program.

Evening entertainment includes a concert with the Hamilton College Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble, and Freestyle Love Supreme, a six person group that is "equal parts Beastie Boys and Marx Brothers." This show provides non-stop action throughout a whirlwind of music, comedy and freestyle rap.

Families can wrap up the evening with Midnight Madness presented by the Men's and Women's Basketball Program and HAVOC. Come watch a highflying dunk contest, an exciting three-point contest, a short scrimmage and performances by the Dance Team and the Cheerleading Team. All proceeds go toward the Johnson Park Center's athletic program in Utica, New York.
