The Hamilton College Theatre Department announces the Spring Theater production of West Side Story, based on a conception of Jerome Robbins, book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

The classic American musical receives an update with the Theatre Department’s production. Set in 2018 Bronx, New York, five months after hurricane Maria, this timeless musical tells a story of love, of otherness and street gangs. Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer directs the play, and the Hamilton College orchestra conducted by Heather Buchman accompanies the performance.

Performances will run Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, April 25 and 26, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. All performances take place in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center on the Hamilton College Campus. 

West Side Story features a cast of 28 Hamilton students, including Nina Merz '22, Christopher Victor '21, Ndanu Mutisya '21, Kenny Letts '21, Gus Gonzalez '21, Adrian Summers '19, Will Benthem de Grave’20, Ben Leit '22, Mitchell Greene '22, Sarah Gyurina '22, Lizzy Ely '21, Ally Millar '22, David Tener '21, Teddy Sullivan '19, Jay Menner '22, Zeke Coleman '22, Rachel Lee '22, Jack Clark’21, Will Kaback’20, Ricardo Millien '19, Lupita Cabanillas '21, Danielle Hirsch '21, Sharon Hammer '20, Addie Amadeck '22, Grace Woolson '21, Carina Krusell '22, and Man Nguyen '22.

Designers Sara Walsh, Jeff Larson, Ntokozo Kunene, and Derek Van Heel create the musical’s setting and vision.

Tickets for the performance are $10 for the public, $6 for seniors/campus community and $4 for students. Seating is limited and reservations are strongly encouraged.  For tickets or more information, call the Theatre Box Office at 315-859-4969.
