Hamilton College finished sixth in the varsity eight final at the 2013 New York State Collegiate Championships, which were held on Lake Whitney in Whitney Point on May 4 and 5.
Saturday's conditions were sunny with a slight headwind that gradually decreased throughout the day and temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s. Sunday was sunny with slight to no headwind and temperatures again in the high 60s and low 70s. All races were 2,000 meters in length.
Nationally ranked No. 2 William Smith College captured the top spot in Sunday's varsity eight final in 6 minutes, 50.46 seconds, and No. 8 Ithaca College came in second place in 6:57.30. Hamilton crossed the finish line with a time of 7:06.89. Kelsey Burke '13 was the coxswain, Margaret Hylas '15 was stroke seat and Karly Moore '15 was in the bow seat. The rest of the boat consisted of (seats seven through two in descending order): Keara Lynn '16, Erin Gerrity '15, Caroline Walton '15, Helen Higgins '13, Jess Pedersen '15 and Keara Fenzel '14.
Ithaca captured gold in the second varsity eight final on Saturday in 7:09.01. Hamilton took fourth place in the event with a time of 7:24.31, which was 0.20 seconds ahead of St. Lawrence University. Heather Piekarz '16 served as coxswain, Hideko Nara '15 was in stroke seat and Nina Byers '16 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two in descending order included: Fiona Hoffman-Harland '13, Emma Zanazzi '15, Annie Lindahl '15, Grace Bowers '15, Ally Kontra '15 and Rachel Johnson '13.
Ithaca also raced to victory in the third varsity eight final on Saturday with a time of 7:28.20. William Smith finished second in 7:37.50 and Hamilton rounded out the top three with a time of 7:42.43. Sydney Cantor '16 was the coxswain, Jess Sofen '16 was in the stroke seat and Mollie Major '14 was in the bow seat. The rest of the boat included (seats seven through two in descending order): Meredith Garner '15, Hannah Zucker '15, Rachael Feuerstein '16, Kate Schramm '16, Margaret Smith '15 and Rachel Landman '15.
Hamilton competes in the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference National Invitational Rowing Championships in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday, May 12.
