Hamilton College placed fifth in the varsity eights petite final at the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference championships/National Invitational Collegiate Regatta held in Worcester, Mass., on Lake Quinsigamond on May 8.

Racing conditions were variable with sun and rain, and temperatures in the 60s with 10-to-15 mph winds.

Hamilton's varsity eights entry finished fourth in the second heat with a time of 6:46.916, and crossed the finish line in 7:10.665 in the petite final. The University of New Hampshire took the top spot in the petite final with a time of 7:00.216. Williams College earned first place in the grand final. Hamilton finished fourth among New England Small College Athletic Conference programs.

Hamilton finished fourth in the second heat of the second varsity eights, crossing the finish line in 7:02.374. Hamilton claimed fifth place in the petite final with a time of 7:06.086. Smith College was first in the petite final with a time of 6:56.797.

Kelsey Burke ’13 was coxswain for the varsity eight. The rest of the boat included Keara Fenzel ‘14 at stroke, Allie Hoetzel ‘14 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Katie Peterson ‘12, Helen Higgins ‘13, Becca Straw ’14, Antonia Villa ’12, Allie Boyaris '12 and Leah Sorensen ‘14.

Sophie Breene ‘12 was coxswain for the second varsity eight. The rest of the boat included Rachel Johnson ’13 at stroke, Iris Greenquist ‘13 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Virginia Slattery ‘12, Pam Lewis ‘11, Alice Dannenberg ‘11, Dom Paiement ’12, Fiona Hoffman-Harland ’13 and Ally Fried ’13.
