Hamilton College's Lainie Smith '16 (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley Senior HS) earned the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award for Oct. 13.

Smith led the Continentals to second place out of 16 teams in the 2014 Hamilton Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Smith finished second in the 161-runner field with a 5-kilometer time of 17:24.9, which was less than a second behind the race winner. Her time is the second-fastest by a Hamilton runner on her home course.

Smith has finished in the top 10 three times out of four races this fall and has finished no worse than 13th in any race so far. Hamilton is off until Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Continentals compete in the 2014 New York State Collegiate Track Championships, hosted by St. John Fisher College.

The $400 million campaign marked the most ambitious fundraising initiative in the College's history.
