Liza Gergenti '14 turned away a season-high 11 shots and Hamilton College played to a 0-0 tie with nationally ranked No. 7 William Smith College in a Liberty League game at William Smith's Cozzens Field on Oct. 2.

William Smith (7-2-2 overall, 1-0-2 Liberty) held a commanding 24-7 advantage in shots, but didn't get one past Gergenti. Hamilton (5-1-2, 1-1-1) played its second scoreless tie this year. The Continentals have played all three of their league games on the road.

The Herons took seven corner kicks to Hamilton's one, but William Smith was whistled for five offside calls. The Continentals put just two shots on goal, including a header by leading scorer Alex Rimmer '13 that was stopped by Herons keeper Amanda Davis (two saves) with 4:29 left in the second overtime.

Lauren Farver '11 had Hamilton's other shot on goal in the 12th minute. Farver caught the keeper moving to her left, and laced a shot toward the far post, but Davis was able to dive back against her momentum and alter the trajectory just enough to push it outside the post. William Smith came closest to scoring in the 86th minute when midfielder Jamie Sawyer’s header hit the crossbar.

The Continentals host Rensselaer for another league game on Friday, Oct. 8.
