Hamilton College defeated host George Washington University, 8-1, in the first match of the team’s training trip on Jan. 13.
 
George Washington was ranked 23rd in the most recent College Squash Association rankings, and Hamilton (6-0 overall) was selected No. 14.
 
Kelly Whipple '10, Alyssa Bawden '12 and Courtney Kollmer '10 each swept their opponents at the first, third and fifth positions, respectively. At the second position, Amanda Thorman '13 won her fifth match of the season when she defeated her opponent by scores of 11-5, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10. Claire Corroon '13 secured a 3-1 win -- her sixth win of the season -- playing at the fourth position (11-7, 10-12, 11-5, 11-4). 

Anne Edelstein '11 rallied for her fifth win of the season, playing at the sixth position. After dropping the first two games 11-9 and 11-5, she won the next three, 11-6, 11-6 and 11-8. At the eighth position, Alexis Lee '13  lost her first game, but went on to win the next three (10-12, 11-7, 12-10, 11-6). Annabel Prouty '13 also won 3-1 at the ninth position. She lost a close first game, 14-16, and then won her next three games 11-7, 11-6 and 11-2. Alyssa Kasanoff '13 won the exhibition match in three straight games.

The Continentals play the final match of their training trip against Franklin & Marshall on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
