The Hamilton College Continentals closed out a perfect spring trip with 8-1 non-conference wins over Carthage College and Piedmont College in Orlando, Fla., on March 26 and 27.

The Continentals (9-2 overall) won all five of their matches in Florida, outscoring their opponents 36-9. Hamilton defeated Carthage on Wednesday afternoon and routed Piedmont on Thursday morning.

The team of Claire Keyte ’17 and Mira Khanna ’15 posted 8-1 wins in both their third flight doubles matches, raising their season record to 5-2 with their fifth straight win. Both were singles winners in Hamilton’s win over Carthage (8-4), sweeping their contests at first and fourth flight, respectively.

Three Continentals won singles matches in both victories. Bella Schoning ’16 improved her season-best record to 10-1 and remained unbeaten (9-0) in dual matches. Sara Shaughnessy ’14 also won her 10th match with victories at both second flight and the sixth spot. Rachel Friedman ’15 is now 9-3 after recording two straight-set wins.

Hamilton swept the doubles matches in the victory over Piedmont (8-5) with Schoning and Winnie Tang ’17 winning at second flight. Tang also won her sixth singles contest against Carthage.

Meg Lee ’14 and Liz Detwiler ’15 improved to 6-5 at first flight doubles with their 8-1 triumph. Emily Chan ’16 remained undefeated (4-0) by rallying for a fourth flight singles win that included a 14-12 third-set victory. Mei Lin Pratt ’16 was a straight-set winner at sixth flight singles and moved to 6-1 this season.

The Continentals play their first home match of the spring season against St. Lawrence University on Sunday, March 30, at 12:30 p.m.
