Hamilton College fell 8-1 to host Bates College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference match played in Lewiston, Maine, on April 18.
 
The Continentals are 3-9 overall, 0-6 in NESCAC play. Bates improved to 8-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference.
 
Deb Barany ‘11 picked up the lone win for Hamilton at first flight singles. Barany led 7-6 (5), 3-0, when her opponent had to retire due to injury. At second flight singles, Laura Brantley ‘10 played a very close match that went all the way to a third set super tie-breaker before she was edged by her opponent, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-5.
 
At second and third flight doubles, the teams of Alex Arenson ‘13 and Vrinda Khanna ‘13 and Barany and Amelia Mattern '12 fought hard, but each pairing fell 8-5.
 
The Continentals host St. Lawrence University for a non-conference match on Tuesday, April 20.
