Women's tennis season starts with 8-1 win over Cortland
Hamilton College (1-0) cruised to an 8-1 season-opening win over visiting SUNY Cortland (2-3) Friday at Hamilton’s Gray Tennis Courts.
Four Continentals were winners in singles and doubles play. Mira Khanna ’15 and Claire Keyte ’17 teamed for an 8-3 win at second doubles after combining to lose just four games while winning at first and third singles, respectively. The pair went 10-6 in doubles competition last year.
Hamilton’s first doubles team of Liz Detwiler ’15 and Winnie Tang ’17 recorded an 8-6 win. Detwiler won her 12th career singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fifth spot. Tang improved to 10-6 in her career by cruising to a second-singles win.
Rounding out the Continentals’ winners were Rachel Friedman ’15 (fourth singles) and Emily Chan ‘16 (sixth). Chan’s win was her fifth in a row dating back to last spring. Friedman raised her career mark to 31-22.
The Continentals travel to SUNY Oneonta for a 4 p.m. non-conference match Wednesday, April 17.
