Dear Members of the Hamilton Community,

Today, we unite with the world community in remembering the victims of the Holocaust and join the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in affirming our “unwavering commitment to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that may lead to group-targeted violence.”

International Holocaust Remembrance Day was designated by the United Nations in 2005 to commemorate the date when Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated on January 27, 1945. We must always remember the six million Jews and countless members of other targeted groups who were murdered by the Nazis, and recognize that genocide still exists today. Recent events, including the taking of hostages at a Texas synagogue less than two weeks ago, demonstrate the importance of today’s commemoration and our continued need to act against intolerance and hate.
