Rasikh Shaukat ’25

Dear Hamilton Community,

With profound sadness and a deep sense of grief and sorrow, I am writing to inform you that a member of the Class of 2025 died tragically earlier this afternoon. Rasikh Shaukat was a biology major from Irvington, N.Y., and a member of the track team. He loved running, he loved competing, and he loved being part of a team.

This is an unthinkably difficult moment. As I told seniors at their class dinner tonight, grief often arrives in waves — some sharp, some quiet, all of them real. Whether you are a student or employee, on campus or already home for the summer, if you’re feeling shaken, confused, or deeply saddened, please know that you are not alone. These feelings are natural, and they are shared. Our community is built on connection. In moments like these, that connection must be our source of strength. I encourage you to reach out to one another — to check in, to sit together, to share memories, or even to just gather in silence. Your presence for each other matters more than words can say.

There are professionals available to support you now and in the days ahead at the Johnson Health and Wellness Center. If you are away from campus or need support after hours, you can speak with an on-call counselor anytime by calling 315-859-4340 and selecting Option 2. As a community, we are and will continue to be there for one another.

We will find a way, in time, to honor and remember Rasikh in a way that feels right. But for now, let us hold space for one another with compassion and care. And please remember Rasikh’s family and friends in your thoughts and in your hearts.

Steven
