The Edward S. Babcock Scholarship
The Edward S. Babcock Scholarship, established via the Will of Edward S. Babcock, Class of 1896, provides support for students of Hamilton College.
Edward S. Babcock was raised in Camden, NY, and graduated from Hamilton in 1896 with an A.B. degree. He earned a M.A. in 1899, and later, in 1935, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Pedagogy degree. While on the Hill, Mr. Babcock was an active member of Emerson Literary Society and Phi Beta Kappa. His career path included roles as principal of various local schools, and, eventually, he returned to the Hill as a librarian and Clerk of the Faculty.
Mr. Babcock held many leadership roles for Hamilton throughout his career, including his service as a member of the Board of Trustees. Additionally, Mr. Babcock had charge of the plantings on campus, including 32 acres of forest close to Hamilton. He was considered an authority on the subject of reforestation.
