The Archibald G. And Margery Alexander Scholarship

The Archibald G. And Margery Alexander Scholarship was established by Douglas Alexander, Class of 1958, in memory of his parents.

Archibald Gillespie Alexander was the son of Sir Douglas Alexander, 1st Baronet, Canadian barrister and president of Singer Manufacturing Company, and Helen Hamilton Gillespie. In 1942, Archibald earned the rank of Lieutenant-Commander  in the U.S. Coast Guard. He married Margery Isabel Griffith in 1932. Their son, Douglas, graduated from Hamilton in 1958, became a professor of romance languages and served as a Hamilton Alumni Trustee from 1983 to 1987.  Doug remains an active member of the alumni body in a variety of volunteer roles including hosting events in Florida.

This scholarship was established in 1978 by Doug and his mother, Margery, in memory of his father. In 1990, Doug asked that his mother's name be added to the scholarship.
