The Benjamin D. Allen Scholarship

The Benjamin D. Allen Scholarship was established in 1990 in memory of Benjamin D. Allen, Class of 1950, by his family and friends.

Benjamin Daniel Allen was born in Danbury, Connecticut. He entered Hamilton in 1944, but soon thereafter joined the U.S. Army. After two years of serving with the infantry in Europe, he returned to Hamilton and graduated in 1950. Benjamin went on to earn his Master’s degree in library science from Syracuse University in 1951. He worked at the Detroit Public Library, and then as editor of various publications, including the "Saturday Evening Post," in Philadelphia; "Medical Economics," a physician's business magazine; and the general interest magazine of the chemical manufacturing firm Rohm and Haas Co. He died in 1989 at the age of 63.
