The Wilmer E. and Esther Bresee Scholarship

The Wilmer E. and Esther Bresee Scholarship was established by Wilmer E. Bresee, Class of 1931, and his wife, Esther.

Wilmer E. Bresee and his wife Esther were both born in Oneonta, New York. Wilmer graduated from Hamilton in 1931 and married Esther four years later. Esther was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations including the Salvation Army and Red Cross. During World War II, she traveled with Wilmer to his many stations with the Army Air Corps. The Bresees’ were perhaps best known for their Bresees’ Department Store in downtown Oneonta, which became one of the town’s landmarks. Wilmer, who was an avid reader and loved writing prose and poetry, died in 1997. Esther died in 2010.

Other family members associated with the College include Philip W. Bresee, Class of 1948, Kimberly Bresee Knipe, Class of 1991, and Corinne Bresee Smith, Class of 2002.
