The Dewar Foundation Scholarship

The Dewar Foundation Scholarship, established in 1990 by the Dewar Foundation, is awarded with preference to students from Oneonta (N.Y.) High School.

Jessie Smith Dewar was one of Oneonta’s most generous benefactors, having gained her wealth primarily from IBM stock. She established the Dewar Foundation in 1947, with the purpose of "primarily local giving, with emphasis on student loans and scholarships, church support, and community funds." She died in 1976, but her contributions continue through the Dewar Foundation. In 1990, the Foundation established this scholarship fund at Hamilton to support students who have matriculated from Oneonta High School.
