The Thompson Family Scholarship

The Thompson Family Scholarship was established by Charles D. Smith, Class of 1989, in honor of Nancy and Mark Thompson and their family.

Charlie Smith majored in psychology at Hamilton and spent a semester studying at the University of Sterling in Scotland. He went on to earn his M.B.A. at Columbia in 1997. Currently, he is Managing Director for RBC Capital Markets.

In establishing this fund, he wrote, “I am thankful to Hamilton for many things including a great education, a set of enduring friendships, and a great alumni network which helped a psychology major, of all things, land my first job in investment banking. But I hold a special place in my heart for Hamilton due to the extraordinary love and support given to me in the spring of my senior year and my first year post-graduation;” a time when Charlie learned to balance academics, family and career. That support was provided by the Thompson family, whom Charlie chose to honor with the establishment of this fund. He notes, “Their love and support was totally unexpected, but truly a blessing at that time in my life.”
