The Madeleine Wild Bristol Scholarship

The Madeleine Wild Bristol Scholarship is awarded to rising sophomore, junior or senior music students who are outstanding performers, composers, scholars or leaders in music and who are also active participants in a broad range of extracurricular activities.

In 1987, William M. “Mac” Bristol, III, Class of 1943, established the Madeleine Wild Bristol Prize Scholarship in memory of his mother. Mrs. Bristol enjoyed music, and admired dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Following the selection of the prize scholar, additional scholarship recipients are selected based on the criteria outlined above.

Mac Bristol majored in Latin at Hamilton and received nine varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. He left the College before graduation in 1943, however, to serve as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, for which he fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. After his discharge in 1946 as a first lieutenant, Mac served as an executive at Bristol-Myers Squibb. In 1965, he joined Hamilton’s Board of Trustees, serving as board chairman for 13 of the 44 years he was a member.
