The John C. and Richard J. Butler Scholarship

The John C. and Richard J. Butler Scholarship was established in 1980 by Viola M. Butler from Carthage, NY, to honor her two sons, John and Richard, both Hamilton alumni.

Richard J. Butler, Class of 1946, was killed in action in France during World War II. Due to his character and action, he received the Silver Star for gallantry. Before he withdrew from the College in 1943 to serve his country, Richard was an active member of Delta Upsilon. His brother, John C. Butler died in 1953.
