Scholarships

The John Behr Scholarship

The John Behr Scholarship was established in 1994 via the Will of John H. Behr, Jr., Class of 1934, as a four-year scholarship for disadvantaged students, with preference given to those matriculating from the Hamilton-sponsored ABC program.

John H. Behr, Jr., Class of 1934 (1912-1993), or “Jack” as his friends called him, advanced his position in the office products field from stock boy to Chairman and, eventually, CEO. Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, he worked various jobs as a teenager to afford his college education at Hamilton. On the Hill, he was a member of the Choir, the Charlatans theatre group, and a manager for the baseball team. In addition, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and Quadrangle. He graduated with an A.B. and returned to NYC where he rose through the ranks in Wilson Jones, an office products company. In time, he became Executive Vice President, then President and CEO of Swingline.
