The Mary and William Klingensmith Scholarship

The Mary and William Klingensmith Scholarship was established in 1980 by Dr. and Mrs. William Klingensmith, friends of the College.

William Klingensmith was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and grew up in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and received a medical degree from Northwestern Medical School, where he specialized in surgery. In 1951, he helped found the Amarillo Surgical Group and practiced surgery for over 25 years. After retiring in 1974, Dr. Klingensmith became Hamilton’s college physician in the Rudd Health Center in 1974.  He also volunteered in Ecuador, Peru and the Navajo hospital in Ganado, Arizona. Dr. Klingensmith died in 2005 at the age of 84. His daughter Trudy Klingensmith graduated from Kirkland College in 1976.
