The Herschel P. and Florence M. Lewis Scholarship

The Herschel P. and Florence M. Lewis Scholarship was established in 1981 in their memory by Dr. H. Paul Lewis, Class of 1956.


Dr. H. Paul Lewis was born in Niagara Falls, New York. He entered Hamilton in 1952, majored in biology and chemistry, was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity, and participated in the College Choir, The Spectator, and The Hamiltonian. After graduating in 1956, he earned advanced degrees from New York Medical College in 1960 and the University of Cincinnati in 1966. He pursued a career in neurosurgery, specializing in gamma knife surgery and complex spine surgery. In 1981, he established this scholarship in honor of his father and mother, an engineer and an elementary school teacher, respectively. Dr. Lewis died in 2008 at age 74.
