The Howard W. Pearce Scholarship

The Howard W. Pearce Scholarship, established in 1985 by Mrs. Howard Pearce and Frederick W. Pearce, Class of 1984, in memory of his father, is awarded to students from western New York State.


Frederick “F.W.” Pearce was born in Buffalo, New York. At Hamilton, he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. He graduated in 1984 having majored in physics and, after a short career in financial consulting, earned a master’s degree in hotel administration from Cornell University. In 1989, F.W. became the owner of Ciao Bella Gelato and Sorbetto, a company based in New Jersey that operates a chain of gelato cafes across the country and wholesales ice cream products to restaurants and grocery stores. Under his leadership as CEO, the company’s products were featured in Business Week, CNN, Yahoo!, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. The company’s recipes and techniques are featured in F.W.’s cookbook The Ciao Bella Book of Gelato and Sorbetto, published in 2010. He left Ciao Bella in 2010 and is the current CEO of South Florida Weight Loss in Miami.
