The Jane D. and Ellis E. Bradford Scholarship

The Jane D. and Ellis E. Bradford Scholarship is awarded to incoming students who evidence strong academic profiles, along with considerable financial need. Preference is given to first-generation college students. The award may be renewable for subsequent years provided the recipients maintain at least a B average and demonstrate a commitment to and involvement in the greater Hamilton community.

Ellis E. Bradford’s years of support and financial contributions to Hamilton earned him the 2005 College Bell Ringer Award and a reputation as “the quintessential gentleman and all-around good guy.” He graduated from Hamilton in 1945 with a double major in history and mathematics, which led to a wide variety of careers ranging from Hamilton Admissions Office assistant to overseas banker. Ellis also served three years of active duty in the Navy and seventeen years working for First National City Bank. He was married to the former Jane L. Dolan, whom he wed in the College Chapel in August 1947. Jane died in October 1990. A Life Trustee of the College, Ellis died in March 2015. His son, Geoffrey, graduated from Hamilton in 1976.
