The Leonard C. '19 and Mildred F. Ferguson Scholarship

The Leonard C. ’19 and Mildred F. Ferguson Scholarship, established in 2005 by Hamilton Trustee Nancy Ferguson Seeley in memory of her parents, is awarded with preference given to students with financial need from Jefferson or St. Lawrence County, New York and northern New York State.

In 2004, Nancy Ferguson Seeley, a Hamilton Life Trustee, established a scholarship in memory of her parents, Leonard C. and Mildred F. Ferguson. A member of the Class of 1919, Leonard Ferguson returned to Hamilton throughout his life, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees and chair of the Alumni Council, while managing growing industries at home and abroad. During his time on the Hill, he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, sang in the glee club, managed the baseball team, served on the Honor Court, and was a member of Pentagon. He interrupted his education to serve in the Army, but returned to his studies and graduated in 1919. In the years after her husband’s death, Mildred Ferguson continued to support the College. In 1987, she received the Bell Ringer Award in recognition of her long-standing commitment to Hamilton.

Other family members associated with the College are Leonard’s father Daniel, Class of 1871; Leonard’s sons, Rodger, Class of 1947 and Daniel, Class of 1948; and great-granddaughter Katherine Hays, Class of 2017.
