The Hawkins Family Scholarship

The Hawkins Family Scholarship was established in 2006 by Philip L. Hawkins, Class of 1978, and his wife, Elizabeth Porter Hawkins, Kirkland College Class of 1977.


Philip L. Hawkins was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He majored in economics, participated on the Publication Board, Judiciary Board, and Honor Court, was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, and lettered on the varsity swimming team. After graduating in 1978, he earned an M.B.A. from University of Chicago. He was employed by LaSalle Partners in 1984. Twelve years later, he started working for CarrAmerica, where he served as president from 2002 to 2006. He is currently CEO, president and director of DCT Industrial Trust Inc. and a Hamilton Alumni Trustee.

Elizabeth Porter Hawkins graduated from Kirkland College in 1977, where she majored in French. She soon started teaching in public schools and today continues to devote herself to volunteer work and substitute teaching.
