The Robert G. Howard Scholarship

The Robert G. Howard Scholarship was established by Robert G. Howard, Class of 1946 and a Life Trustee of the College. It is awarded on the basis of financial need.

Robert Gray "Bob" Howard was executive vice president of Dean Witter Reynolds Inc., a stock brokerage and securities firm, which is now Morgan Stanley. A member of the Hamilton Class of 1946, Bob studied German, political science, and drama. In addition, he was a member of the swim team and an active participant of the student-run radio station, WHCL. After completing his freshman year, Bob left Hamilton to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II, flying planes for two years as an Ensign before returning to the Hill. After graduation, he embarked on a long, successful career in the investment industry.

Bob joined the Hamilton Board of Trustees in 1961 and was elected a Life Trustee in 1995. He was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by the College in 1996 in appreciation of his long-standing support. The Howard Diner, a favorite spot on campus, was made possible through his generosity.
