The David E. Mason Scholarship

The David E. Mason Scholarship, established in 2004 by David E. Mason, Class of 1961, is awarded to a member of Alpha Delta Phi.

David E. Mason, Class of 1961, established this scholarship to assist members of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, demonstrating his lasting gratitude for the financial assistance he received as a student. When he was a freshman at Hamilton, his father passed away, leaving David’s family in difficult financial circumstances. Dean Winton Tolles created a three-year financial aid package that covered his tuition, and his fraternity, Alpha Delta Phi, awarded him a Seward Scholarship to cover the cost of room and board. This assistance allowed David to continue his collegiate studies and graduate with his Class in 1961.

During his time at Hamilton, David majored in history, served as a resident advisor and participated in the College Choir. He earned a degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1964. David continues to support Hamilton in many ways, including volunteering at the Career Center and serving on the Alumni Council. He is also a Life Trustee of the College.

David’s son Bruce is a 1993 graduate of Hamilton, and his daughter, Sarah Mason Wolchuk, graduated in 1996.
