To say that Elizabeth McCormack is a successful, widely-respected and influential woman would be an understatement. Her philanthropic work has been vital in sustaining and improving an array of institutions. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Manhattanville College, a master’s degree from Providence College, and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Fordham University. She has been awarded several honorary degrees, including one from Hamilton.

As a nun, Elizabeth was a teacher and later became headmistress of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich. She also served as professor, dean, and president of Manhattanville College, where she was integral in the school’s transformation from a Catholic women’s college to a nonsectarian coeducational college. After leaving the Order of the Sacred Heart, she became a philanthropic and educational advisor to the Rockefeller family and was chair of the Asian Cultural Council.

Elizabeth began her association with Hamilton in 1978 having previously served on the Board of Trustees of Kirkland College. She is a Hamilton Life Trustee and has supported the College’s arts programs as well as a number of scholarships and professorships. When asked about her philanthropic work with the College, she responded, “The best part is the joy I experience when I invest in something I believe in – Hamilton.”
