The Carl B. and Cordelia S. Menges Scholarship, established by Carl B. Menges, Class of 1951, and his wife, Cordelia, is awarded to first-year students who have demonstrated leadership, strong academic performance and future promise. It is restricted to students from Suffolk County, with preference given to those from the East Hampton, New York area, and is renewable for the sophomore, junior and senior years.

Carl B. Menges, Class of 1951, majored in economics and English and was a member of the Sigma Phi fraternity. After Hamilton, he earned an M.B.A. from Harvard University. He has served as vice-chairman of the College’s Board of Trustees, and was a Charter Trustee for sixteen years. Carl also chaired the committees on planning and instruction, and established the Presidential Fund for Faculty Innovation, which provides resources to continually improve teaching and learning on the Hill.

He and his wife, Cordelia Sykes Menges, a graduate of Vassar College Class of 1960, established the The Carl B. and Cordelia S. Menges Scholarship in 1985. Their son, Samuel, graduated from Hamilton in 2000, along with nephew Stuart Murray in 1992 and niece Dorothy Murray in 1987.
