The Andrew and Ora Siuda Scholarship

The Andrew and Ora Siuda Scholarship was established by Chester A. Siuda, Class of 1970, and his wife, Joy, in honor of Mr. Siuda's parents.

Chester "Chet" A. Siuda, Class of 1970, was born in Schenectady, New York, the son of Andrew, a machinist, and Ora, a keypuncher. Chet came to Hamilton in 1966, and majored in economics. He was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity, played varsity baseball, and sang in the College Choir. After graduation, Chet joined the U.S. Coast Guard serving as a strategic planner for electronic navigation and communications systems, and as a liaison with the Department of Defense. In 1971, he married Leslie Joy McLaughlin.

After his discharge from the Coast Guard in 1975 as a Lieutenant (junior grade) with a Coast Guard Achievement Medal, he enrolled in the Wharton School for Business at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated the following year with an M.B.A. Chet worked for Citibank until he and a colleague founded their own company, Crown Associates, in 1981. He has served as a Hamilton Trustee since 1987, including as Vice Chair of the Board from 2002 to 2008, and was elected as a Life Trustee in 2008. The Sigma Phi house, which serves as the Office of Admission and Financial Aid, was renovated and rededicated as the Siuda House in 2007.

The Siuda Scholarship was established in honor of Chet's parents with the hopes of creating "possibilities for students who otherwise couldn't attend Hamilton."
