He graduated in 1941 having majored in English and economics. He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain from 1941 to 1946. He married Josephine in December 1945.

George worked at Chevrolet for most of his career, rising from a marketing position to merchandising manager of trucks at the time of his retirement. He died in 1987; Josephine passed away in 1993. This scholarship was established through a bequest from Josephine's estate.
