Information for Faculty
Exam Requests
- Members of the faculty will make reasonable accommodations for students with properly documented disabilities and testing accommodations.
- Professors may accommodate students directly, if they wish. This may be more common for straightforward accommodations like extended time and separate locations.
- Faculty members are encouraged to provide approved testing accommodations within their departments when possible, because doing so often allows for easier access to faculty during exams should a student have questions. However, the Accommodated Testing Services is available as an alternative resource for eligible students.
- Please avoid discussing accommodations for students in public. We encourage you and the student to meet individually to discuss your course and any accommodation arrangements.
Scheduling Process
- Members of the faculty will receive an email from testing_center@hamilton.edu when a student schedules an exam with the Accommodated Testing Services.
- In situations where students have back-to-back classes, the exam may need to be administered at another time or location to avoid disrupting class-time learning.
- Extended exam time should never run into another class or academic commitment. Allowing students to begin a test earlier or at a different time of day may be required in order for them to attend all of their classes.
Testing Environments
- Students approved for assistive technology or computer use will generally take their exams with Accommodated Testing Services. Students may benefit from taking an exam directly with the faculty, as it allows them to ask questions during an exam more easily. An advantage for faculty is that they are able to maintain control over the exam. Our office is available to consult with faculty regarding implementation of testing accommodations.
- Faculty should indicate what materials they are allowing the class to use during the exam. Some examples may include textbook, notes, equation sheets, calculators, computers, etc.
Integrity
- Students are expected to understand and abide by the provision of the Hamilton College Honor Code.
Testing Attendance Policies
- Students who are 20 minutes late for their scheduled test and have not previously notified their professor and the Testing Center will need to reschedule.
- Late-arriving students may not be given additional time to account for their tardiness.
- If a student needs to cancel a test, they must first receive permission from their professor, and then notify the Testing Center. The Testing Center cannot give the student permission to cancel or reschedule.
