Information for Students
Requesting Accommodations & Exams
- Students must self-identify to the Accessibility Resources Office and take primary responsibility for their accommodations.
- Students are encouraged to privately discuss their accommodations with their faculty in advance to determine if the student should take the test in the Accommodated Test Center or within the classroom environment with accommodations provided by the faculty.
Exam Arrangements
- In order to take your exams with the Accommodated Testing Services, students must be registered with the Accessibility Resources Office and have testing accommodations established for the current semester.
- All test proctoring requests must be submitted one full week (7 days) in advance of the test date or (14 days) for final exams. A student must have an appointment to take their exams in the Testing Center. Students can schedule exams for entire semester. Students will receive a confirmation email before each exam and they can opt out if they choose to take their exams in the classroom without accommodations.
- Schedule your test as far in advance as possible to ensure you have a seat at the time it is needed.
- Please allow sufficient time to complete your exam when you set your reservation time.
Testing Procedures and Expectations
- Bring a photo ID (driver’s license, Hill card, passport, etc.) as proof of identity.
- Make sure you arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled testing, so you can check in, get settled, place personal items in a locker, and use the restroom, if necessary.
- Students should assume that they may be taking their exams with a small group of students.
- Students are provided with a reduced-distraction environment at the Testing Center and should not expect the availability of a private room. Private rooms are based on availability and are provided to students based on their specific accommodation needs.
- Students should bring writing utensils and additional allowances from their faculty (For example: notes or calculators, and any additional allowances based on your accommodations, such as laptops or assistive technology).
- Please note that unless specifically permitted by the faculty, we do not allow cell phones, calculators, textbooks, notebooks, notes, smartwatches, or any electronic devices into the testing areas.
- All cell phones, smart watches, and any other electronic devices must be turned off and stored in the lockers unless it is required for accommodation purposes.
- Cell phones may not be used as calculators.
- Cell phones utilized to manage medical devices, e.g. continuous glucose monitors and epilepsy devices, will be allowed.
- Students with scheduled breaks as an accommodation receive “stop the clock” breaks so that their exam time is not impacted by the scheduled break.
- Students will not have access to the exam or personal items during breaks.
- Water bottles are allowed, but no other food or drink is allowed in the Testing Center unless the documented accommodation says otherwise.
- We expect you to be considerate of any other students who may be sharing a testing space with you.
- We ask students to be mindful of their own behavior (such as avoiding perfumes, colognes, and keeping extraneous noises to a minimum) to minimize distractions for other students in the Testing Center.
- Please refrain from making excessive noise or engaging in distracting behavior, such as tapping pens, knuckle cracking or humming during your exam.
- An individual thought to be under the influence of a controlled substance, alcohol, prescription or non-prescription drug whose behavior is disruptive to the testing process will be asked to leave.
Integrity
- Students are expected to understand and abide by the provision of the Hamilton College Honor Code.
- Students will sign an Accommodated Testing Services Agreement prior to each exam.
Testing Attendance Policies
- Students who are 20 minutes late for their scheduled test and have not previously notified their faculty and the Testing Center, will need to reschedule.
- Late-arriving students may not be given additional time to account for their tardiness.
- If you have an emergency that prevents you from coming to your schedule exam time, please communicate right away with your faculty and the Testing Center.
- If you need to cancel a test, please do so as soon as possible. You must first receive permission from your faculty, and then notify the Testing Center. Accommodated Testing Services cannot give you permission to cancel or reschedule.
