Scholarships, open to all areas of study, were established in 1998. The first group of Mitchell Scholars will begin their studies in Ireland and in Northern Ireland in fall 2000. Scholars may study or conduct research at institutions of higher education in Ireland, including the seven universities in the Republic of Ireland and the two universities in Northern Ireland. Standards by which Mitchell Scholars will be judged include: demonstrated record of intellectual distinction; record of leadership; co-curricular activities; potential for future leadership and contribution to society. Highly competitive.
Eligibility

U.S. citizenship required; open to seniors.


Duration

One academic year of post-graduate study or research.

Amount

In addition to tuition and room, each scholar receives a stipend of $11,000 to cover other necessary expenses for the year.


Selection Process

Candidates are interviewed by the on-campus faculty fellowships committee for nomination and endorsement. Applicants invited for interviews by the Mitchell selection committee will travel to Washington, DC.
